Is It True That Men are Better Poker Game Players than Women?
Any man who does not love himself would end up making this statement and invite trouble for himself and his kind in abundance. Times have changed tremendously, women have entered the club rooms’ playing cards and playing poker specially and no more eyebrows are being raised. The fact that it has gained social acceptance is seen in the increase of the number of women seen at the poker table. This number has increased and is growing day by day.
Of course there is a difference the way men play poker and the way women do it! I mean, play! Do men tend to get more volatile and irked easily giving an edge to their counterparts? The answer is a straightforward YES!
Women are known to be far more patient than men. No, these are not generalizations, and Poker is a game where patient players always have an upper hand. Hence, women can be (Ok, let’s not be too harsh on men) they CAN BE better poker players than men. This patience helps women learn more about others at the poker table.
They are much better when it comes to understanding Neurolinguistic signs. They are pretty quick to pick up non-verbal cues and use it to assess others at the table. After all, they do one of the best jobs on the earth, and that is raising a child. Go back and try to recall the time that you wanted something as a kid and before you could utter, there she was ready with it. Yeah, you won’t remember. Go and ask her, she would for sure!
These traits in a woman make her a champ at a table in a casino and make men sneer at times. The ability to understand the behaviour of other players at the table is one of the important talents one should have. And who else does it better than women? They have been brought up in such an environment that they are able to do this subconsciously. This gives women an added advantage to understand players better than men.
Men because of the increase in their testosterone tend to get aggressive, where in women in such a situation become shy. They will not waste this energy and would rather use it positively in playing a hand in poker. In most of the situations, aggression in men becomes an impediment for them and works as a distraction while playing poker. Their concentration and focus goes for a toss.
Some men take it for granted if women tend to play quiet and restricted. This is what men try and take advantage of simply because their image on the table appears weak. Here is where a little bit of change is required. Women should allow themselves a change and show some aggressiveness in their behaviour shedding their image of a weak and “the second sex” image. It is not a good idea that you (women) want to allow the male aggression to lose your focus and derail you from playing better.
Women just need to do their job! Gauge men’s behaviour at the table and use it to proper use and at the right time and try and channelize men’s aggression to your advantage.
Final Musings
It is true that for ages now, many games have cheered for men being in the centre and women took the back seat. They have always been considered underdogs the moment she said “I can”. However, this is the thing of the past! Now entering the casino door and playing with the entire pot-bellied, cigar chewing men at the table, women were never so happy and never felt so adventurous as they feel when they topple the former order and return home after stealing the pot. Playing poker is a kind of open game for both men and women, especially when they play online. One needs to see more and more women join the fray.
