Apart from the biggest summer event of the year in Las Vegas, the 2012 World Series of Poker, the poker world this summer will have a special charity event. The Mohegan Sun, one of the top casinos on the East Coast will be teaming up with the top racing tour “NASCAR” to raise money for two important causes.
This summer, before the Pocono 400, the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs will be teaming up with NASCAR on June 10. “The Pocono Celebrity Poker Showdown” will be taking place on June 7 where a number of drivers and celebrities will be taking part in the event. Both the NASCAR Foundation and the Armed Forces Foundation will be benefited from the funds raised by the event. The event will give several donation opportunities to interested poker players and race fans through which will enable them to be part of the tournament.
These limited playing spots have been divided into three levels of donations. Through a donation of $250, the player will get both a seat at the tables and opportunity to participate in a special pre-tournament “meet and greet” with the celebrities and drivers participating in the event. And through a donation of $150, a player will be able to take part at the tables for all of the poker action, while through a donation of $50, the fans will get car racing rail side for the poker tournament. As a final prize, the victor will get an all-expense paid trip to the Mohegan Sun in Montville, CT, or a VIP Pocono Raceway race weekend.
“We’re so pleased to partner with the Pocono Celebrity Charity Poker Showdown on this charitable event benefitting the NASCAR Foundation and the Armed Forces Foundation. The spirit of racing is in our DNA and we look forward to a successful poker showdown,” said Bobby Soper, the Chief Executive Officer of the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
During the announcement of the event Brandon Igdalsky, the Pocono Raceway president and CEO stated “We are very excited about the opportunity to team up with two charitable organizations and the Race fans will have the chance to play against some of NASCAR’s top drivers and personalities, with all proceeds benefiting the efforts of The NASCAR Foundation and the Armed Forces Foundation. We anticipate a great event and sincerely thank all involved, especially Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, for all their support.”
The former NASCAR champion Kurt Busch, the driver of the #51 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet Impala stated during the announcement. “Both the NASCAR Foundation and Armed Forces Foundation do a lot of work to help their respective communities and in order to do that they depend greatly on the generosity of people who can contribute. It’s great that Pocono Raceway is helping in this way with the poker tournament. It’s just a fun way to raise money and draw attention to the work of the two groups.”
It is believed that the Thursday Night of Poker with the greats of NASCAR and other dedicated celebrities would be providing immense entertainment to those who are not able to get to the bright lights of Las Vegas for the WSOP.
