The poker tournaments are generally classified into two types; Rebuy Tournament and Freezeout Tournament. These two tournaments differ in their rules and terms for playing. Freezeout tournaments are a little rigid and everyone is required to have a certain amount of chips. In case any player loses his chips, he is expected to leave the tournament.

Rebuy tournament has certain levels in the course of the game; one, two or more levels at times. Generally, these levels stick to three in count. As the name is suggestive, any player can buy again a certain amount of chips in case the player loses early. These Rebuy Tournaments again can be of different types and thus may have different set of rules. Some of these permit a fixed number of Rebuy attempts while the others allow a certain amount to be bought again. There also exists a term as ‘add’ where players are eligible to buy an added number of chips.

If we compare the two we will find that the Rebuy tournaments are advantageous more for the casinos rather than the players. It is advisable to have the full knowledge of these Rebuy tournaments before participating in them.

As per the levels in these tournaments, there are 4 kinds and the lengths of these tournaments are decided by factors like:

• The total number of the players playing

• The total number of chips a player starts the game with

• The time spent in each level

• And, the kind of the game its decided to be played

The tournaments can be free or have a small entrance fee. Generally, free tournaments are found and can be participated online or in some local casinos. This is done to get popular amongst the players.

There is a kind of game known s Single Table satellites (SNG) in which there comes up only one winner. These are some special tournaments, where the players are provided an opportunity to win and get a good rank in the other large buy-in tournaments. Time has been changing and so has been the rules related to SNGs. Nowadays, instead of only one winner, the top three are rewarded and the rewards include cash.
