Poker is played in presence of a dealer where in a player raises a bet via a combination of cards at one’s disposal and claims a stake in the pot through the process of call, raise and fold till the final showdown when the hidden cards have to be displayed face up on the table to win the pot. The way in which a player is seated around the poker table has a direct effect on the game. Accordingly the players start with their call depending on the position they are seated which happens in a clockwise manner. The position of a player might help or even mar the chances of winning the stake in the pot during a game.
Position 1 in poker refers to the player who acts first and initiates the game. The opponents may make a player out of the position once it’s their time to act after the player has been in position when he/she was playing. The significance of the last player or one whose chance appears later will be at an edge than the opponents as one will be equipped with sufficient information about the other’s hands and might stand a chance to win the game with good strategy. A player might lose considerable money due to the position one is seated.
The dealer position is also considered significant which is refereed to as ‘on the button’ because the dealer is last one to act and will have an edge over all the other players with sufficient knowledge about the cards dealt by the opponents. The position 1 in poker along with 2 and 3 are not much liked as players have to rely on luck and instincts. The only option available to save the chances of sticking on till the last round is to resort to probability and initiate bluff rather than forced bet which will disclose your secret regarding the stake to the opponents.
One has to play quite skillfully and with a clear mind as playing in an aggressive manner will give way to the opponents to judge your playing style well and hence you will be eliminated easily. The position 1 in poker is also referred to as under the gun as one will act first without a hint of information about the rest and considered the most at risk. The position really makes a big difference as how one can claim at stake in the pot during the game so that should be deliberated prior to being seated.
The position indicates the significance of the player and one’s turn as when a player says one has got a position it means the person concerned will play next after the flop is initiated in the game.
